What the numbers are
The figures are indexed percent changes of a rolled crude oil futures series that we build from exchange settlements by S&P's published roll rule, and the page shows how every day compares with the published index (for the early years, with a second data vendor's copy of it). They are not prices and not the return of any account or product. We check our work and show the checks, and we still give no warranty that it is free of error.
